Gerry Harris overhauled his first diesel engine in 1973, when the Detroit Diesel 6V53 in the gravel truck he was driving at the time blew up. Gerry decided he liked working on the trucks more than driving them so he entered trade school in Victoria, B.C. to pursue a career as a Diesel Engine mechanic.
He served an apprenticeship with Cullen Detroit Diesel that took him throughout B.C. working on engines and support systems in everything from fishboats to 200 ton off highway haul trucks. Gerry stayed with Cullen DDA for 11 years, rising to the position of Manager of Service and Operations at the Houston, B.C. branch.
With a growing family Gerry and his wife Carol decided it was time to move back to the coast in 1987, so began Gerry’s new career as an independant business man. Now, many years later, the business has evolved with a strong reputation for honesty, integrity, and reliable service.
G. Harris Diesel Services Ltd. moved into it’s current home in the old Department of Highways yard and shops in Gibsons in 2004, when Gerry’s son Danny joined the business. They have continued to add quality mechanics to the staff and superior products to their diesel engine lineup.
In addition to Detroit Diesel MTU line of heavy duty engines, we are proud to supply the complete line of Isuzu and Iveco diesel engines used in all sorts of marine, industrial, and genset applications.
